Award Winning Cheese – The Great Taste, Women and Home VIP Award, 2014

Winner of the Great Taste, Women and Home VIP Award, 2014

Although no strangers to making award winning cheese, it was still a lovely surprise when the Somerset Cheese Company received an email from The Great Taste Awards 2014 to say that we’d been nominated for an award.
Although we’d entered the awards in the past and had won 3 Gold Stars for our semi-hard goats cheese Pennard Ridge, we’d not actually entered the awards this year. It was quite mysterious, however they were adamant that we should come to the awards dinner in London.
So off we went in our glad rags to The Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington, and had a fantastic time. It was like the Oscars for Speciality and Artisan food. The nominations and subsequent winners for each category were presented between courses, the category sponsored by Woman and Home for the Woman and Home Great Taste VIP Award was announced and this was the award we’d won!!!

Jane Curren, Food Director for Woman & Home and Woman & Home Feel Good Food explains:

“Somerset Cheese appeared in May/June Feel Good Food this year. We feature producers who have won stars at the Great Taste Awards. We are a media partner of Great Taste and every year we give an award. We select a shortlist of producers which we call VIPs, Very Important Producers. The shortlist then goes up on our website and our readers vote for their favourite. Somerset Cheese must have a lot of fans as they were the outright winners! It is very much part of our DNA at woman&home and Feel Good Food to promote smaller producers who are doing great things.”

How great to be given the award by the public who are eating our cheeses, and obviously enjoying them! It’s nice to know that our goal to produce high quality, award winning cheese is being noticed.

Why not try our award winning semi-hard goats cheese Pennard Ridge or any of our other traditional cheeses.

The cheeses from Somerset Cheese Company are firm favourites with our customers, the different varieties of milk used to make the cheeses is a big factor in this with each type having its own distinctive flavour.  My personal favourite is Rainbows Gold with its rich curd and sticky pungent rind, it is quite different from any other local cheese and a great addition to the range!

As well as consistently making fantastic tasting cheese, Phillip and Anita have been lovely people to work with, over the years they have given a novice deli owner invaluable help with great advice based on their wealth of knowledge and lots of support with numerous tasting events both in the deli and out at festivals.
